Omar did everything right. After immigrating to the US 43 years ago with only $1,800 in his pocket, he worked through school, earned a degree in Civil Engineering followed by an MBA, started a grocery store, bought the retail strip mall, and by 1997 he supposedly retired.He started buying residential properties including large multi-family apartment complexes in the San Francisco Bay Area. He eventually had $30 Million in property. He sold everything and invested in two remote strip malls in early 2007 at the age of 65. He followed the advice of his broker and his attorney. He lost everything. He shares generously what he learned in hopes others will learn from his blind spots.

A child of the Great Depression, his family relocated from Chicago to Denver when his father lost his job during the Great Depression, and his mother invested in real estate. He started working in real estate at age 16. He has never had a major problem he had to recoup from due to his conservative nature. Along the way he became Mr. Colorado and Mr. Utah in body building, and was a parter with Jack LaLanne in 165 gyms in the 1960’s. He invests in multi-family properties, banks, and recently invested in the Sonics in the Bay Area.
